We’ve created this event because we’re passionate about cancer rehabilitation
and its benefits. We want to make a difference. We want to inspire others
and raise awareness of cancer rehabilitation and the benefits it can have
for cancer sufferers and survivors.
We’ve been involved for some time with the specialist treatment that PINC
& STEEL Cancer Rehabilitation Trust offers, and have seen and experienced
first-hand the improvements in quality of life for the men and women who
go through rehabilitation. We want to ensure that this service is equally
available for every man and woman in the Bay regardless of their ability
to afford treatment; finances should not be a barrier to accessing these
vital services which can make such a difference to someone’s life, and
by actively fundraising, we’re guaranteeing funds are readily available
for financially pressured men and women with cancer to get the treatment
that they need and want through funding applications to the PINC &
STEEL Cancer Rehabilitation Trust.
Like most people these days we have a personal story where cancer is concerned
– several in fact! We are cancer rehabilitation specialists with our own
stories and personal journeys which have continued to inspire and motivate
us to spread the word. Cancer is something that most of us can identify
with, and the prevalence is growing, with recent statistics confirming
just 1 in 2 people will develop some form of cancer at some point in their
lifetime.
But it’s not all bad news; yes, cancer is a terrible disease, and the
treatments for it (surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy
etc.) can be gruelling, but the survival rates are increasing every year
and there is so much research around the benefits of cancer rehabilitation,
particularly exercise, and how it can improve outcomes; better quality
of life, lower recurrence rates, better survival rates.
